During Wednesday’s regular meeting, the Public Service Board elected its officers for 2020, with all three positions now filled by women.
Dr. Kristina Mena was elected as Chair of the board. Mena is regional dean of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health’s El Paso campus.
“Having known the work of El Paso Water that has advanced the water quality field long before moving to this community almost 20 years ago, I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as PSB Chair,” said Mena. “I have already learned so much as a Board member; I am eager to continue working with this remarkable organization.”
Dr. Ivonne Santiago was elected as Vice Chair. Santiago is a clinical professor at the College of Engineering at University of Texas at El Paso.
Terri Garcia was elected as Secretary-Treasurer. Garcia has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry.
“I’m proud of today’s action, which results in an all-female team of PSB officers for the very first time,” said President and CEO John Balliew. “Each of our officers brings deep expertise in their respective areas.”
The Board holds it officer elections annually and selects candidates from among its members.
El Paso Water is governed by the Public Service Board. The Board consists of the El Paso Mayor and six other trustees appointed by the City Council. Board members serve four-year terms.
