The Punisher was meant to be a throw-away character first appearing in Amazing Spider-man #129. He was such a hit with readers Marvel kept him around and even gave him his own title.
They wrote him into the story-line for Daredevil season 2 and he stole the show. Netflix/Marvel decided to give him his own series.
The first season of Punisher introduced us to Frank Castle/The Punisher. It also set up Billy Russo/Jigsaw for season 2. A lot of people were anticipating Jigsaw with a scarred & stitched face, but what we got was just some deep scratches on Billy’s face. There was really no reason for him to have the moniker of Jigsaw when the damage to his face was nowhere near what would be deemed patchwork.
As much as Netflix set up Billy Russo to be the big bad guy in season 2, the new character of John Pilgrim was much more compelling. If, and it is a big IF, Netflix goes forward with a season 3 of Punisher I would like to see them use better villains, even if they have to invent them.
We need to see someone really run Frank through the paces rather than just having him plow headlong into fights. I want to see a methodical and strategical Punisher.
The one thing that kinda stuck in the back of my mind was…. where did Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, etc go while Frank was filling up the body bags in New York? You think they would have heard about it on the news and investigated it? How was Karen Page the only one that came out to help Frank? I guess the Defenders were busy doing their own thing.
