Regional Flood Planning Group sets open house public meeting in El Paso for late October

Residents of the El Paso region can provide feedback on flooding they have experienced at their home or business to the Upper Rio Grande Regional Flood Planning Group (URGRFPG) at an open house-style public meeting in October.

Participating in the planning process helps ensure flood mitigation projects, strategies and priorities are represented in the Upper Rio Grande Regional Flood Plan and, ultimately, the 2023 State Flood Plan.

“Going forward, only the projects listed in the 2023 State Flood Plan are eligible for funding support through TWDB’s Flood Infrastructure Fund,” officials added.

Open House-Style Public Meeting

Wednesday, October 27, 2021   |   From 4-7 p.m. MDT

Carlos M. Ramirez TecH2O Water Resources Learning Center   |   10751 Montana Avenue  | El Paso, Tx

Additional open house-style public meetings will be held in Presidio and Pecos in early 2022. When those meetings are scheduled, they will be posted here.

No formal presentation will be given at these open house-style meetings. They are opportunities for the public to review exhibits and provide their feedback to planners, engineers and others.

Written comments may be left at the El Paso meeting or submitted by mail to: Barracuda Public Relations, Attn.: Region 14 Flood Planning, 2531½ East Yandell Drive, El Paso, TX 79903.

Mailed comments must be received between October 13 and November 12, 2021. Similar windows for providing written comments will be provided for meetings held in Presidio and Pecos.

As part of the Texas Water Development Board’s statewide flood planning process, the Rio Grande Council of Governments has sponsored the URGRFPG to ensure West Texans from across the 23-county area have a voice in helping the state prioritize flood control projects.

The ongoing Upper Rio Grande (Region 14) Flood Planning Group is identifying and evaluating projects to mitigate flooding for people, property, and businesses across the El Paso region.
