Roadrunners down Miners in straight sets 3-0

San Antonio, Texas- The UTEP volleyball team fell in straight sets to UTSA as the Roadrunners recorded a 3-0 victory on Sunday in the Convocation Center.

Dalainee Perry led the offense with nine kills, five digs and a block. Lindsey Larson aided the offense with 23 assists while adding nine digs, four blocks and a service ace. Sarah Villa led the defense in digs (16).

The Miners are now 7-18 overall and 1-9 in C-USA while UTSA moves to 15-7 and 6-2 in C-USA.

The match opened to six tied scores and two lead changes early in the first frame. A kill by Dajana Boskovic sparked a UTSA 6-2 run that would force UTEP to call a timeout. The Orange and Blue was unable to respond to the Roadrunner’s attack and UTSA claimed the first set 25-17.

The Miners tallied the first point of the second set with a kill from Perry. The teams fought back-and-forth but UTSA closed out the set 25-22 with a kill by Boskovic.

The point-for-point battle continued into the third frame as the score tied six times. A 4-0 run by the Roadrunners gave the team a 13-9 lead. The Miners stayed close behind through the remainder of the match but UTSA ultimately took the third set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

The UTEP volleyball team will continue on the road as it prepares to face North Texas at 4 p.m. (MT) on Thursday in Denton, Texas. The Orange and Blue will then face Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. (MT) on Sunday in Memorial Gym.
