The Round Rock Express scored 12 runs before making their fourth offensive out of the game and carried that early lead to a 14-10 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas Friday night. The loss ended El Paso’s six-game winning streak and the team-record eight-game home winning streak.
Round Rock brought home five runs in a ten-batter top of the first inning, with a rally including seven hits, four of which were doubles. The Express plated seven more runs in the second inning, with four runners scoring on Jared Hoying’s grand slam to right field.
The Chihuahuas tried to get back in the game late by scoring three times in the eighth and twice more in the ninth but former Chihuahuas’ reliever Anthony Carter got Casey McElroy to ground out and end the game.
The Chihuahuas’ potent offense was still present despite the loss, as El Paso clubbed 15 hits to improve the team batting average to .319. El Paso leads the Pacific Coast League in batting average, hits, runs, doubles and triples. Alex Dickerson went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs Saturday, extending his hitting streak to a Chihuahuas’ record 18 games.
Dickerson surpassed Reno’s Mike Freeman for the longest hitting streak in the PCL this season.
Rehabbing Padres infielder Yangervis Solarte went 3-for-3 with a walk, falling a home run shy of the Chihuahuas’ first cycle, while playing both second base and third base. Round Rock’s 21 hits fell three shy of the Express’ single-game hits record.
