The Round Rock Express beat the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-3 Sunday, handing El Paso its fourth consecutive loss. The Chihuahuas have dropped five of their last six games.
The Chihuahuas burst ahead early with first inning RBI hits from Nick Buss and Ryan Schimpf but fell behind to stay after Round Rock’s 10-batter, five-run bottom of the third. One start after his major league debut, Chihuahuas pitcher Kyle Lloyd allowed four earned runs in three innings of work.
All seven Round Rock runs came with two outs Sunday. The Express used three former San Diego Padres pitchers – Anthony Bass, R.J. Alvarez and Ernesto Frieri.
Despite never having a losing season, the Chihuahuas have struggled against Round Rock in their team history, losing 11 of the 14 meetings.
Collin Cowgill went 2-for-4 with a home run for El Paso Sunday.
