Freshman Mara Rouse turned in the best effort of her career to set the tone for the UTEP rifle team (4576) in a home meet with Ohio State (4676) at the UTEP Rifle Range Sunday. The Miners fired 2247 in smallbore and 2329 in air rifle while the Buckeyes finished at 2314 in smallbore and 2362 in air rifle.
Rouse came within a point (565) of matching her personal high in smallbore but shattered her prior standard (583) with a 591 in air rifle. The combined effort led to a career-high aggregate (1156). Fellow classmate Bailey Powell shot 566 in smallbore and 589 in air rifle to record the second-best aggregate (1155) of her career.
Senior Rachael Schoenrock registered a 569 in smallbore and 581 in air rifle for an aggregate of 1150. Sophomore Haylee Schoenrock recorded 565 in smallbore while firing her second-highest total (581) in air rifle to conclude with her second-best aggregate (1151) as a Miner.
Freshman Abby Monique shot 547 in smallbore and 571 for an aggregate of 1118. Sophomore Maranda Nelson posted a 533 in smallbore and matched the second-best air rifle score (579) of her career for an aggregate of 1112. Jessica Kinder (578) and Monthserrat Serna (564) both competed only in air rifle.
UTEP will wrap up the fall portion of its campaign by competing twice at Nevada from Nov. 12-13.
