Sáchica Wins Flight Title at SDSU Fall Invite

SAN DIEGO, Ca. – Lina Sáchica posted a win in straight sets to take home the title in her flight on the final day of action for the UTEP tennis team at the SDSU Fall Invite Sunday.

Sáchica cruised past Lauren Anderson (CSUN), 6-2, 6-0, to cap off her perfect 3-0 run through her bracket. She also teamed up with Eve Daniels to secure runner-up honors after a narrow 6-4 setback to Autumn Prudhomme/Celia Morel (GCU).

“We had another solid day today,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “Lina (Sáchica) and Eve (Daniels) finished in second place in their doubles. Lina won her singles flight and Eve won her singles match. I’m very proud of Lina for winning her flight. She has been improving with every match and every tournament. Overall, we played and competed well for the most part. We still have some work to do in order to continue on this upward path.”

Erandi Martinez and Thássane Abrahim knocked off Martina Lo Pumo/ Ludovica Infantino (GCU), 6-4. Kathleen Percegona and Maria Aveiga were tripped up by Jolene Coetzee/ Ana Fraile Tobosco (CSUN), 6-2.

Daniels joined Sáchica in the win column as well in singles action after she defeated Stella Carra (McNeese State), 6-1, 6-3.

Martinez battled but came up short to Katya Hersh (Utah), 6-1, 3-6 (12-10). Thássane Abrahim fell to Julia Jordan (SDSU), 6-0, 6-0

UTEP will be idle until it returns to action at the ITA Mountain Regionals Oct. 23-26.
