Sacred Heart Parish Celebrates 125th Anniversary this Weekend

Parishioners and neighbors alike are gathering Friday and Saturday to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the sister churches known as Sacred Heart Parish and Immaculate Conception.

The original church, which was built and started by Fr. Carlos Pinto, SJ., known as the Apostle of El Paso, laid the foundations of what was to eventually become the Diocese of El Paso. Both churches were built simultaneously to serve the blossoming two language communities found in El Paso.

While forging their own histories, over the past century and a quarter, they have remained the twin pillars of faith for the El Paso region.

The celebrations start on Friday, June 8, with the Father “Jack” Vessels, S.J. 5th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament honoring Fr. Jack Vessels’ legacy in El Paso and surrounding area.

Officials say “It will be a day of golf, food and fun to help continue to “Build on Pillars of Faith by supporting Sacred Heart, register by clicking here.”

The celebration will include a 6pm Mass at Sacred Heart Parish followed by Dinner at 7:30pm.

On Saturday June 9, a 7:00 AM Morning Worship service will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, and a 7:30 AM Morning Worship service at Immaculate Conception Church.

Parishioners from both Parishes will then meet in front of Sacred Heart Church at 9:00am to start the procession which will finish at Immaculate Conception Church.

Following the procession the congregation will have a Benediction and Platica at Immaculate Conception Church.
