Salt Lake City fights off Chihuahuas’ Rally, Beat ‘Dogs 9-7

The El Paso Chihuahuas scored six runs after the sixth inning Thursday but could not catch Salt Lake in the Bees’ 9-7 victory. Edwin Jackson allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs in his third start with the Chihuahuas.

El Paso trailed 8-1 in the seventh inning when the club scored twice on an RBI single by Manuel Margot and an RBI double by Carlos Asuaje. With runners at second and third and two outs, Salt Lake brought in reliever Jose Valdez, who got Hunter Renfroe to line out to center field and end the inning.

Down 9-3 in the ninth, the Chihuahuas brought the tying run to the on-deck circle after an RBI double by Nick Noonan, a two-out, two-strike RBI single by Asuaje, and a line drive home run to left field by Renfroe, but the rally stopped there and Salt Lake hung on to win.

Renfroe’s homer was his league-leading 21st of the season and his third in the last five games. El Paso is 2-2 on its current road trip.
