Officials share that this year it’s the “2020 Drive-By Luminarias” and the gates surrounding the Placita will open – Saturday, December 19 from 5:00 to 10:00 pm – to allow vehicles a rare opportunity to pass through the square and enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas in San Elizario safely from their vehicles.
“Luminarias in San Elizario have long been a tradition in which several organizations, businesses and volunteers from the community work together to install over 3,000 of the traditional, Spanish-style lanterns on historic buildings, which are anchored by the San Elizario Presidio Chapel,” society officials shared via a news release.
“The result is a picturesque Spanish colonial holiday scene like no other in our area!”
El Paso County Public Health Orders will be observed and no one will be allowed to exit their cars.
Entrance is from Alarcon Road onto San Elizario Road, exiting onto Socorro Road. Drivers are invited to turn off their headlights while they are in the Placita.
