Santa to make an early visit to Sunland Park

Santa will make his annual pre-Christmas  Eve visit to Sunland Park, as hundreds of area children will receive Christmas gifts as part of a giant toy giveaway organized by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Posse.

Santa and his Stage Coach will pull into the parking lot at Sunland Park Racetrack  and Casino on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. The media is invited  to cover this event.

More than 800 new toys are expected to be given away during the invitation-only  event, which is a long-standing tradition of the Sheriff’s Posse, who first began  distributing toys to Sunland Park children during the 1960’s. Over 1,000 toys will  be given to children who might not otherwise have a present under the tree this  Christmas.

“We get really excited about this time of year,” said Rick Miles, Chairman of the El  Paso County Sheriff’s Posse Christmas Toy Program. “Making the season bright for  the children of Sunland Park is tremendously rewarding for us and we appreciate all  the community support. Our partners at The Casino at Sunland Park Racetrack and  the Sunland Park Police Department are wonderful to work with and we look  forward to this special day of the Christmas season.”

Now in its sixth decade, the program receives a boost from employees at Sunland  Park Racetrack and Casino, who has joined the Sheriff’s Posse in the giveaway effort  for 21 years now.

“Giving back to the community is a part of our workplace culture and we enjoy  hosting the toy giveaway here,” said Ahmad Mughni, General Manager at Sunland  Park Racetrack and Casino. “It’s fun to see our racetrack and casino employees  serving cookies and hot cocoa to the families that attend the event.”

Generous support for the El Paso Sheriff’s Posse Christmas Toy Program is provided  by The Robert E & Evelyn McKee Foundation, America Village Communities, Pete &  Beverly Sellers, The Casino at Sunland Park Racetrack, The Sunland Park Police  Department, and many local community members and businesses. This year’s toy  giveaway will also benefit The Armed Services YMCA and several local charities and shelters.
