UTEP’s Michael Saruni was named the C-USA men’s track performer of the meet, it was announced by the league office Friday afternoon.
The freshman had an outstanding showing at the 2017 C-USA indoor championships held in Birmingham Ala., winning gold in the 800m (1:50.47) and the mile (4:03.32).
Saruni contributed 20 points to help UTEP finish fifth overall in the men’s meet. His point total tied for fourth amongst the male participants.
The 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held in College Station, Texas, on March 10-11. Student-athletes now await the final national performance lists next week to see who will qualify for the annual NCAA event.
