Segundo Barrio Futbol Club tours UTEP

The members of the Segundo Barrio Futbol Club are getting a kick up on college life, thanks to a recent visit to the University of Texas at El Paso.

The soccer players, who range from freshmen all the way to seniors, toured the campus and got an in-depth presentation of what it takes to become a Miner.

Monday’s visit gave students a first-hand look at college life.

Juan Adame, the club’s assistant director, said the students were enthusiastic about the visit.

“The club does more than just teach them about soccer,” he said. “It gives us the opportunity to improve their lives through academics and education.”

Segundo Barrio Futbol Club is a non-profit that works with students in the South Side ensure social change through a focus on academic and a shared love of soccer.

“The students were very excited about the visit because it exposed them to what the possibilities are,” Adame said. “The goal of Segundo Barrio Futbol Club is to create well-rounded individuals who have lofty career goals.”

A total of 20 Bowie students participated in the tour.
