Service Industry Benefits From 1 Year Free Child Care, WSB Hosts Press Conference to Honor Services Team

Workforce Solutions Borderplex (WSB) will hold a press conference to celebrate the behind-the-scenes staff processing hundreds of applications for free child care through March 31.

The Service Industry Recovery (SIR) program, which launched last Fall through the Texas Workforce Commission, offers workers in the service industry one full year of free childcare.

“We understand the increase in workload our child care staff has endured, and we want to make sure they know the community appreciates their efforts,” said Myriam Guerrero, WSB Family Services Director. “Because of their consistent work ethic and exceptional customer service, more and more families around the Borderplex are benefitting from this federally-funded support.”

The industries targeted include low-wage workers in the arts, entertainment and recreation industry, as well as accommodations, food services and retail trade. These industries were some of the greatest impacted by the pandemic. Workers in the service industry are invited to learn more about eligibility requirements and apply here.
