SISD elementary schools to host Texas Bluebonnet Award voting parties
Team SISD students are exercising their right to vote! Elementary students, with guidance from school librarians and teachers, have been reading books from the Texas Bluebonnet Award reading list.
Now, they have the chance to vote for their favorite book, which will determine which children’s author wins the prestigious Texas Bluebonnet Award. The winning author is awarded by the Texas Library Association in April.
SISD elementary schools will have voting parties to celebrate the students’ success in reading the Bluebonnet books, to engage them in the voting process, and to generate more excitement about reading and the Texas Bluebonnet Award.
Students will participate in voting and other activities centered on the Texas Bluebonnet Award, and will receive “I Voted!” stickers.
The events will lead up to Team SISD’s first Battle of the Bluebonnets in which students will participate in a trivia style contest with questions about the Texas Bluebonnet Award books. A special local celebrity guest will be the announcer for the competition on Feb. 26 at the District Service Center.
SISD’s Battle of the Bluebonnets will be the first contest of its kind in El Paso.
