Socorro Independent School District (SISD) fine arts students are preparing for the University Interscholastic League Region Marching Contest October 9 at the Student Activities Complex.
“After a year off, Team SISD is excited to once again host the annual UIL marching competition at the Socorro ISD Student Activities Complex,” said Armando Martinez, SISD Fine Arts director.
“As programs perform for the opportunity to advance to the next level of competition and in hopes of qualifying for the state contest, we in SISD are extremely proud of our teachers and students for persevering through the many obstacles the pandemic placed on them last year and ensured that all our programs continued to thrive and excel at a high level.”
The UIL Region contest is one of the most important contests for all marching bands. Each group has eight minutes to perform and impress the crowd and judges with their music and production.
The competition will feature Class 2A, 4A, 5A and 6A bands from the El Paso region, including all six SISD high school bands.
The contest begins Saturday, October 9th, at 10 a.m., and awards will be given after the performances.
The event is open to the public. General admission fee is $5; children under the age of three are free.
