SISD launches new bus safety measure for Pre-K, kinder students

Safe and secure learning environments is always the top priority for the Socorro Independent School District and the latest safety measure is focused on keeping the youngest students safe on SISD buses.

Team SISD is implementing a new safety protocol for Pre-Kindergarten and kindergarten students who ride the bus to school. Parents, guardians or anyone picking up students from the bus drop off points will have to present a picture ID and the new identification card.

Parents and guardians must register for the card at their child’s school. They will be asked to provide identification and other important information in order to ensure that they are authorized to pick up their child.

Parents/guardians will be allowed more than one card in the case that grandparents or other relatives or caretakers also pick up the child afterschool. However, parents/guardians must provide those contact names with the school, as well.

The new ID card safety measure will be in effect the first day after fall intersession, which is Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

Parents/guardians or others picking up Pre-K and kindergarten students must present the card in order to pick-up their children from the Pre-K hub schools (O’Shea Keleher Elementary, Myrtle Cooper Elementary, Horizon Heights Elementary, Hurshel Antwine Elementary and Chester Jordan Elementary) and for Campestre Elementary, Ernesto Serna School, Escontrias Early Childhood Center, H.D. Hilley Elementary, Hueco Elementary and Robert R. Rojas Elementary.

The safety measure for the kindergarten students at the remaining elementary schools in the district will take effect January 2016.

Please contact your child’s school for any questions or concerns regarding this new safety measure. You may also call the SISD Administrative Services department at 937-0053.
