Socorro ISD’s Marchfest 2017 to be Streamed Live via Herald-Post

As part of the Herald-Post’s mission to promote and educate the community on events throughout the Borderland region, and to support the schools and students from around our area, we are pleased to announce a new, live streaming program.

For the first time, Socorro ISD’s annual competition for bands – MarchFest – will be streamed live, from beginning to end on Saturday, October 21st.

Thanks to our partners over at, and our dedicated crew: It’s a Whole New BAND Game

“This program is like the halftime that doesn’t end, paired with day-long qualifying similar to what you’d see at Daytona or Indy,” said Chris Babcock, long-time play-by-play announcer,”These kids, the directors, the parents and the pit crews have been working since mid-summer for this event, with their eyes on the prize of a state championship, as a 7-year-band dad I felt the time was right to give them the spotlight they deserve.”

“It’s competition in it’s purest form, with its very own soundtrack and dance…the perfect event to watch, either in person or via our streaming broadcast,” Babcock added.

Babcock will be joined by Lorraine Kubala, retired band director and band blogger, for the special all day event.

During the duration of the event, the broadcast will feature interviews with band directors, and select drum majors (as available) and – of course – plenty of music and performances.

The preliminaries will start at 8am sharp, and run through 3:30pm.  Then the finals, with bands selected from the earlier event, start at 4:45pm. Below is the schedule of events for the individual bands.
