SISD seniors, parents invited to FAFSA Nights workshops, graduation requirement

The Socorro Independent School District, in conjunction with the University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso Community College, Howard Payne University, Texas Tech University, and Region 19, will have FAFSA Nights workshops during October and November at SISD high schools.

“TeamSISD understands that there may be many barriers to higher education,” said Tammi Mackeben, SISD director of guidance and counseling. “One of those barriers is the cost of an education. That is why we encourage all parents to attend FAFSA Nights during the months of October and November to get assistance with completing the FAFSA process.”

The workshops will assist seniors to apply for the 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application form, which is a graduation requirement this year.

More than $120 billion in federal grants, loans and work study funds for college or career schools are available through FAFSA. FAFSA applicants may qualify for one or more of those forms of financial aid.

The SISD FAFSA Nights will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the following days:

  • Monday, Oct. 25 at Pebble Hills High School
  • Thursday, Oct. 28 at Eastlake High School
  • Monday, Nov. 8 at Americas, Mission Early College, and Socorro high schools
  • Wednesday, Nov. 10 at El Dorado and Montwood high schools

If students cannot attend the workshop, they can complete the FAFSA online.  FAFSA is also available on the myStudentAid mobile app, which can be downloaded on the Apple or the Google Play store. SISD high school seniors may attend any of the FAFSA Nights workshops.

The 2022-2023 FAFSA application is available starting Oct. 1.
