Six El Paso ISD students were among the 20 finalists earning a spot in the El Paso Regional Spelling Bee on March 4 at Andress High School, the EPISD Education Foundation announced Tuesday.
The finalists took part in an online semifinal that includes a timed spelling and vocabulary test that narrowed the field from 80 to 20 spellers. The six EPISD students will be competing for a trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC in late May. Last year’s winner Marium Zahra, an 8th grader at the Young Women’s STEM Prep, earned a spot in the finals and will compete again for top speller honor.
EPISD’s finalists are:

Samuel Duke Grine – Don Haskins Pk-8 School
Sejal Basava – Hornedo Middle School
Mia Victoria Fang – Whitaker Elementary School
Sofia Burns – Wiggs Middle School
