Socorro High School student wins Prom Pamper Package from Jakada JS Clothing

Socorro High School senior Natalie Peña is the recipient of the 2020 Prom Pamper Package awarded by Jakada JS Clothing.

Peña will use the package when she attends her senior prom on May 9. It includes a free dress with customizations and alterations, along with makeup, hair and nail services.

The Socorro High School senior won the package as part of a contest that Jakada JS Clothing opened to high school students.

“This is just my way of giving back to the community,” said Jakada JS Clothing co-owner Kellie Evans.

The local business was looking to award students who displayed good morals, outstanding work and study ethics, good grades, service to the community, and who may be experiencing financial hardships. Applicants were asked to submit an essay and a copy of their most recent report card.

“We are glad to do this for Natalie,” Evans said. “I believe what you put out comes back when you help someone, regardless of knowing what they are going through.”

Evans said she knows how expensive a prom experience can be. She said most students want to wear something grand and go all out on hair and makeup, but sometimes they have limited resources.

“We were really stressed, so I had planned to do my own hair and makeup so it could be financially easier for my mom,” Peña said. “I’m excited because now I’m going to get everything for free.”

Peña has met with Evans and her glam squad for her consultation. She will work with Jakada JS Clothing to customize her own dress, which is based on a design that was featured by Jakada in El Paso Fashion Week.

“I’ve never won something like this before,” Peña said. “I am very grateful.”
