City of Socorro to host ‘Socorro Siesta’, First event since 2019

Officials with the City of Socorro announced that the will host ‘Socorro Siesta,’  their first community event since 2019.

Organizers say it will be a 3-day event July 31st, August 1st, and August 3rd from 6-10 p.m. held at the Rio Vista Community Center, located at 901 North Rio
Vista Road.

The event will include a small-scale art exhibit that showcases a converted bus with messages of hope, prosperity, and faith that
memorialized the August 3rd event.

“The current exhibit titled Tribute 23, features a community art installation in remembrance and honor of the victims of the El Paso
shooting that happened on August 3, 2019, where visitors can write a message of hope or express their emotions and feelings directly on the walls of the exhibit with the purpose of healing through art,” organizers share.

The exhibit was created by local artist Laura Turon.  Officials add that the event is part of a grant award the City received to take art into the underprivileged parts of the county.

This pet friendly event aims to promote a relaxing atmosphere accompanied by de-stressing activities. We invite the public to bring
out their pets and come out to enjoy good food, receive giveaways, play millennial loteria and be a part of the free yoga session.

Organizers add that they are still looking to highlight local businesses, massage therapy, mental health resources, gardeners, farmers, pet boutiques, pet schools, and pet vendors.
