Out of thousands of nominations nationwide, LG Experience Happiness and Be Strong recognized Brenda Solano, a choir teacher at SPC. Rafael Hernando III Middle School, for how she chooses to lead and serve in and out of the classroom with sustainable happiness skills.
To assist in the classroom or with virtual learning, Solano received a free 34-inch monitor screen, courtesy of the LG Experience Happiness and Be Strong initiative. Hernando principal Valerie Hairston nominated Solano for the prize.
“It feels so surreal to be recognized for something like this because it’s such a big part of who I am,” Solano said. “I love creating a classroom where students can be themselves without feeling judged because that’s how we grow not just as students but as human beings.”
LG Experience Happiness and Be Strong accepted nominations for teachers who embody generosity, gratitude, human connection, mindfulness, positive outlook or purpose through their teaching and interaction with their students, as well as beyond the classroom.
Educators across the country were rewarded for their hard work and positive attitudes, especially during the unprecedented and challenging times during the pandemic.
“We always talk about building relationships with students and how that helps them grow and learn as young adults,” Hairston said. “I don’t think anyone does it better than Ms. Solano does, I think it’s just a gift she possesses, she has that passion and love for her students.”
Solano will be using her new monitor in her classroom for virtual learning.
“I am so grateful to my principal, Team SISD and of course LG for this amazing gift,” Solano said.
