Socorro ISD earns fourth consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Socorro ISD earned its fourth consecutive Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE), which is awarded by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) to school districts that achieve high standards in financial reporting and accountability.

Socorro ISD has earned the prestigious recognition from the worldwide organization for its commitment to responsible and transparent financial operations. The COE was awarded based on the district’s FY 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

“I am proud of the work that our entire staff achieves as responsible stewards of taxpayer funds. We work to fulfill our commitment to financial stakeholders in the district,” said Socorro ISD Chief Financial Officer Tony Reza. “We continuously operate with high standards in financial transparency and reporting.”

The district’s comprehensive financial report was judged by a team of professional auditors. Reports that receive the ASBO Certificate of Excellence meet the program requirements and showcase the school districts’ achievement of financial accountability. A district’s participation in the COE program can facilitate bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.

“It’s thrilling to receive this award for the fourth year in a row,” said Rene Vargas, director of business services for Socorro ISD. “This means that Socorro ISD continues to be up to par in our financial reporting and meeting the high standards of this organization and the transparency that’s involved in it.”

ASBO is a nonprofit organization that provides programs, resources, services, and a global network to school business professionals who are passionate about quality education. The COE is proudly sponsored by ASBO International Strategic Partner American Fidelity.
