Socorro Independent School District announced Monday that they will be offering a new barbering and diesel technology program at Socorro High School for the 2021-2022 school year.
“I am so excited that these programs are being offered to our students,” said David Esparza, Career and Technical Education district counselor. “This goes to show how much CTE is growing within our district and giving so many students endless opportunities!”
Current SISD sophomores from across the district can apply now for the barbering program and sophomores and juniors can apply for the diesel technology program. Both programs will begin next school year.
Students may contact their high school counselors to learn more about the application and enrollment process.
The barbering program is a state licensure program which will prepare students to be work-ready for the barbering field.
Students can graduate with a Class A barbering license and learn how to market their skills and create their own portfolio.
The diesel technology program is a dual credit program in partnership with El Paso Community College. Students will have the opportunity to earn certifications recognized in the diesel technology field, such as brakes, diesel engines, suspension and steering, and electrical/electronic systems.
Transportation will be available to the students who are selected for the programs to transport them to and from their home campus.
