The Texas School Public Relations Association awarded the Socorro Independent School District 30 awards for excellence in writing, communication, photography, videography, graphics and a special event.
“Team SISD won a Crystal Commendation award for the 2020 SISD Virtual Teacher of the Year Announcement, a first-ever event which was created to continue the annual tradition of celebrating the district’s Teachers of the Year and to name the top two winners, despite the challenges of not being able to have a large group gathering amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” officials shared.
“SISD’s Crystal Commendation was one of only eight Crystal awards given across the state.”
The district also won three Best of Category awards and three Certificates of Merit in the Crystal Commendation awards. Best of Category awards were given to SISD for its Team SISD Seize Your Opportunity commercial, annual report and a middle school basketball championship photo. The Crystal Certificates of Merit were for photo portfolios and a video portfolio.
In addition, the SISD PR department won 14 Gold Star awards, 10 Silver Star awards and 2 Bronze Star awards for outstanding publications, multimedia, graphics, and marketing projects executed during the 2019-2020 school year.
TSPRA’s annual Star Awards recognizes the outstanding education communications and projects of school public relations professionals. Some 1,400 entries from school PR teams across the state were evaluated in the awards program. Gold Star Awards recognize entries that achieve its purpose with noticeable creativity, craft and skill, but, in the opinion of the judges, does so in an exceptional way.
The honors were announced at the TSPRA Star Awards Celebration February 24, 2021 at the association’s 59th annual conference in Denton, Texas.
