Last month, Socorro ISD honored the Class of 2021 summer graduates in a special ceremony at Eastlake High School.
The commencement ceremony celebrated graduates from Socorro ISD’s six comprehensive high schools – El Dorado, Pebble Hills, Montwood, Americas, Eastlake, and Socorro.
School principals and administrators attended the ceremony to cheer on the graduates and provide words of encouragement as they move on to the next phase in their lives.
“Our graduates have journeyed through so much to get to this point,” said SISD Interim Superintendent Marta C. Carmona, M.Ed. “This last year was a test of their perseverance, patience and positivity. Look at them now.”
The students were eager to walk the stage and receive their diplomas after many years of hard work to reach their milestone achievement.
“I think this is amazing because I didn’t think I would ever get here,” said April Pacheco, a graduate from Socorro High School. “I can’t wait to continue my studies now.”
Julian Rico, a graduate from Americas High School, said he was proud to be able to accomplish this goal he had set for himself.
“I was a little bummed at first because I was missing credit for one class only,” Rico said. “Fortunately, I was able to get it done, I finally earned the almighty diploma and now from here the only way is up.”
SISD leaders and educators were proud to congratulate the graduates for success in earning their diplomas.
Eastlake High School principal Gilbert Martinez said this was a special group of students because of the major challenges they had to endure the previous year.
“These are very bright students,” Martinez said. “They’re students full of grit, resiliency, tenacity and they just never gave up. We are here today honoring them because they deserve it, and I am so glad we came together to get this done for our students and their families.”
