The Socorro Independent School District celebrated the grand opening of the district’s Employee Health Clinic with a special ribbon cutting ceremony earlier this month.
After the ceremony, the clinic offered an open house for SISD employees and officially opened for business the following day.
“This is really big,” said Alba Nevarez, family medicine physician at the clinic. “It’s important to be innovative so we can help employees be healthier.”
The health clinic will serve all SISD employees and their dependents who are currently enrolled in the district health insurance plan.
A variety of services will be available for employees and their dependents, including acute care, wellness care, biometric screening, sports physicals, lab services and a pharmacy.
“We are working very close with administration so if a teacher is not feeling well, they can just run over here and head back, as opposed to trying to get to a physician and taking a whole day off for a visit that will take 10 minutes,” said Kelly Moreno, nurse clinic manager.
The opening of the new health clinic is part of Team SISD’s commitment to A Healthier Team SISD. The district focuses on the health and well-being of all students and employees, with attention to food nutrition, health instruction and education, safe and healthy school environments, health services, physical education, school counseling, health promotion for staff, and integrated school and community wellness programs.
The clinic is located next to Montwood High School at 11950 Bob Mitchell. For questions or more information, employees may call (915) 937-2750.
Note: In an effort to maintain the health and wellness of all SISD employees and dependents, the SISD clinic will implement appointment only visits until further notice.
Employees and/or dependents must call in to have their concerns triaged over the phone PRIOR to coming in. The clinic is highly encouraging those that are experience cold/flu like symptoms to stay indoors and treat symptoms with corresponding over the counter medications.
Both the flu and the common cold is a virus that can’t be treated with antibiotics or steroids and must have the opportunity to run its course.
The clinic doors will remain locked and all triage will be done outside in the employee’s vehicle to protect employees from potential contamination. The SISD Employee Health Clinic phone number is (915) 937-2750.
