Socorro ISD Students Sweep Regional Science Fair Contest, Now Move to State

SISD students competed in the 33rd Annual Sun Country Regional Science & Engineering Fair with well-researched scientific projects and fared extremely well as they swept the awards.

More than 60 students placed first, second and third in the contest, qualifying for the Texas Science & Engineering Fair March 31 at theTeam SISD sweeps regional science fair4 Team SISD sweeps regional science fair2Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

The district also took eight of the 12 sweepstakes titles. The sweepstakes winners are deemed the best projects for the entire fair and are selected from the first-place winners from every category.

“We certainly kept up the winning tradition,” said Sandra Blough, chemistry instructor at Mission Early College High School, who helped with the SISD project coordination. “We have sweepstakes winners, a student going to the international science fair and more than 60 students going to state. I would say that was pretty good.”
