Socorro ISD to celebrate 34th annual Spring Games

The 34th Annual Socorro Independent School District Spring Games in memory of James P. Butler, one of Team SISD’s most popular events, will be March 30 at the Student Activities Complex.

More than 1,000 students with special needs will participate in track and field events, such as 10- and 25-meter walks, assisted walks and 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400-meter runs. Other events include relay and wheelchair races with and without assistance. In addition, this year SISD will feature for the first time a unified relay race.

Parents, families, teachers, students, volunteers, and community members will attend the games to root for the student-athletes and assist with the events. Elementary students will compete from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and secondary athletes (middle and high school) will have their contest from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Both sessions will begin with a mini parade that will include athletes, SISD administrators, teachers, staff and volunteers.

Athletes competing in the SISD event are eligible to participate in the area Special Olympics Spring Games and other year-round sports, both city and statewide.
