The Socorro Independent School District is proud to announce that it will be expanding its Dual Language Academy to two more campuses, Bill Sybert School and Hueco Elementary, starting in the 2022-2023 school year.
Parents of 4-year-old Pre-K and kindergarten students may apply to enroll their child in the dual language program at Bill Sybert and Hueco. Parents are invited to information nights at 5:30 p.m. April 12, 13, and 14 at Hueco Elementary, Bill Sybert School and the District Service Center, respectively, to learn more about the innovative program.
Applications will be accepted from April 18 through May 20. The enrollment process for the academy is based on various criteria and a lottery system.
The Dual Language Academy also is available at Myrtle Cooper and Dr. Sue A. Shook. Applications for upcoming 4-year-old Pre-K students are being accepted for Myrtle Cooper and Dr. Sue A. Shook. Upcoming students in kindergarten and first grade also may apply to be added to a wait list for these schools.
If parents have already attended a parent information night, they do not need to attend another meeting. Parents can apply to enroll their incoming 4-year-old Pre-K student at any of the four Dual Language Academy campuses.
In the SISD Dual Language Academy, students will become bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish through rigorous instruction and multicultural experiences. The program will provide dual language students the resources necessary to be academically, socially, and linguistically successful in both English and Spanish to become globally competitive citizens.
Benefits of being a dual language learner include proficiency and literacy in both languages, high levels of academic achievement, greater creativity, attention to detail, problem solving skills, and confidence.
