Socorro ISD’s 27th Annual Marchfest takes over Student Activities Center Saturday

Twenty-three high school marching bands from the El Paso area will compete in the 27th annual SISD Marchfest on October 19 at the Students Activities Complex (SAC).

“Marchfest is going to be a big affair this year,” said Ron Pingor, SISD assistant fine arts director. “The contest allows participants to receive some of the greatest comments from excellent drum corp instructors on how to improve their shows.”

Marchfest is open to the public, general admission fee is $5; children under the age of three are free.

Bands will perform in front of professional judges from around the country based on a national competition standard with a preliminary/finals format.

Four bands from the small group (Class B) and eight bands from the large group (Class A) will advance to the evening finals. Awards will follow the final performance.

Many of the performing bands are returning to the field after participating in the UIL Region Marching Contest last week. During the UIL event, all six SISD marching bands and flag programs received a division 1 rating.

This year, Eastlake and El Dorado high schools are among Class 5A groups advancing to the 2019 UIL Area Contest Oct. 26 at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
