Elfida P. Chavez Elementary School will be recognized for winning the ninth annual Subway Fitness challenge Tuesday, April 18th.
“I feel happy that our school won the contest,” said Norma Almaraz, campus nurse. “It helps encourage students to be physically active, something we always do here at Elfida.”
Local Subway Restaurants will present the campus with a $2,000 check for the purchase of new exercise equipment and award students with the greatest participation gift cards.
To win the challenge, the school monitored the physical activity of its students for six weeks and turned in weekly reports that calculated the minutes of daily physical activity before, during and after school.
Chavez Elementary was one of three campuses in the El Paso, Las Cruces area to win the Subway Fit Challenge which promotes physical activity among young children.
