The UTEP Women’s Golf team will kick off the 2021 spring season this week as the Miners travel to compete in the GCU Spring Invitational, which is being hosted by Grand Canyon University.
UTEP will compete among a 15-team field on March 1-2 in Phoenix, Arizona. The two-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 6,171-yard GCU Championship Golf Course.
Participating teams will play 36 holes on Monday before concluding play with 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Miners will be one of 15 teams competing in this year’s GCU Invitational, along with GCU, UC Riverside, Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona, Montana State, Southern Utah, North Dakota State, Seattle U, CSU Bakersfield, California Baptist, UTRGV, South Dakota and Utah Valley.
UTEP’s five golfers are set to tee off with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. MT on both days.

This weekend will mark the first time the Miners have competed in almost a year with the last competition coming at Hawaii’s Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational (March 10-11, 2020). In that event, UTEP finished 12th out of 16 teams in the 56-hole tournament.
Following that event, the remainder of the 2020 spring season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
