St. Francis Cathedral Welcomes New Pastor

St. Francis Cathedral announces the arrival and installation of The Rev. Layne C. Hansen to serve as the congregation’s new Dean of the Cathedral (Lead Pastor).

Pastor Hansen came to El Paso in March to succeed The Rt. Rev. Dr. Felix Orji, who assumed full-time responsibilities as bishop of the Diocese of the West.  Pastor Hansen was installed during ceremonies at the church in June.

“St. Francis Cathedral is honored and privileged to have Dean Hansen at the helm of our congregation.  He brings experience, enthusiasm, and a steady hand to our church,” said Charles Napier, Senior Warden. “He has begun his ministry in El Paso to further the Gospel in our beautiful city through mission and outreach. We’re excited about the future.”

Pastor Hansen is a native of Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska before studying overseas at the University of Lancaster and at Trinity College in Bristol, both in England.

Before entering seminary, Pastor Hansen worked in the Republic of South Africa at the Volmoed Trust, an inter-racial Christian community facilitating racial reconciliation. He then served on the faculty of Washington International School, Washington, D.C.  Following seminary at Trinity School for Ministry in Pennsylvania, Pastor Hansen served at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Prior to his move to El Paso, he served for ten years at Christ Church Anglican, Savannah, Georgia.

Pastor Hansen, his wife, and their two sons, ages 13 and 6, are enjoying making El Paso’s Westside their home.

“El Paso-Juárez is an amazing and beautiful place. It’s rich in people, history and culture,” said Pastor Hansen. “I’m excited to serve a congregation like St. Francis. It’s a church that’s passionate about serving El Paso-Juarez and partnering with other Gospel centered churches. My wife and I are also thrilled to raise our boys in such a great church and wonderful city.”

St. Francis Cathedral is an evangelical church in the Anglican tradition.  It is located at 470 Eagle Drive in west El Paso.  The church is a member of the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA), and is a founding member of the Anglican Church in North America.

St. Francis serves as the cathedral church for the Diocese of the West (CANA), and is the home church of the diocesan bishop, The Rt. Reverend Dr. Felix Orji.
