Stung! Bees End Chihuahuas Streak with 6-5 Win
The El Paso Chihuahuas lost a little steam on Thursday losing to the Salt Lake Bees 6-5 after a promising start.
While it was only the second game of this five-game series, the loss stung a little more because it ended an eight-game winning streak by the Chihuahuas.
The Dogs started the game strong, going through the entire lineup in the 1st inning and scoring four runs off of Bees pitcher Jo Lamb (4.34 ERA). Lamb settled down after that and kept the Chihuahuas quiet.
The Dogs came back in the 4th inning with a game-tying solo home run by shortstop Javy Guerra off Bees pitcher Taylor Cole. Guerra’s moonshot landed on the top of three-story ‘Big Dog House’ in right field.
The game remained tied up at 5 until the 6th inning when the Bees struck again scoring the game-winning run. The winning pitcher was Taylor Cole with the save going to Ian Krol.
“It looks like they’re not going to come out on top today,” said loyal fan Frank Favela as the crowd got riled up by a Chihuahuas hit in the bottom of the 9th. “But us real fans know that you can’t win them all because it’s a long season. We’re just here to pull for our team.”
Chihuahuas notes:
Right fielder Franmil Reyes (.274) went 1-4 and continued his hitting streak to ten games with a bases-clearing double in the 1st inning.
Third baseman Diego Goris (.359) went 1-5 and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Top prospect Luis Urias (second base) did not play Thursday after hurting his right hamstring in the series opener. Urias’ status is described as day to day
