Summit Plastic Molding – Horizon
Horizon Economic Development Corporation (EDC) officials announced that Summit Plastic Molding plans to expand its Horizon City facility, creating more jobs and promoting more growth in the region.
“Summit’s continued investment in Horizon City will bring more well-paying jobs to our region and it exemplifies why they are a valuable partner for the city and Horizon City EDC,” said Eduardo Garcia, Director of Horizon City EDC.
“These types of investments help us attract more jobs and more industry to our growing community and continue to position Horizon City, with our young and skilled workforce, as an attractive place for businesses to start, relocate or expand and take advantage of the incentives the EDC has to offer.”
Summit Plastic Molding is a plastic injection molding company founded in Michigan in 1982. Its 100,000 square foot Horizon City facility opened in 1990. The Horizon City facility manufactures injection molding production components, tool building and maintenance for the global company’s automotive customers in the U.S. and Mexico.
“We’ve had a great relationship with Horizon City officials for the past 30 years, and we are looking forward to the next 30 ,” said Ray Kalinowski, CEO of Summit Plastic Molding. “The 25,000 square foot expansion to our Horizon City warehouse will enable us to continue growing and to provide more jobs to the region. Horizon City’s proximity to the border and the incentives the city and Horizon City EDC make the partnership a good fit for continued growth.”
Summit specializes and targets automotive and, more recently, non-automotive markets, including medical and defense. The company currently employs more than 80 people, all from Horizon City, and partners with area high schools for internship opportunities to develop tool makers and CAD designers.
A groundbreaking for the new addition was held Wednesday, November 17.
