Dr. Veronica Vijil, Superintendent of Fabens ISD, was selected as the Vice President of the Texas Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (TALAS).
She will serve a two-year term in this office; Dr. Vijil most recently served as the secretary of this statewide organization which advocates for the growth and advancement of Latino learners and leaders in Texas. Latino students are the fastest growing student population in our state; in 2019, Latino learners comprised 53% of the students in Texas.
Dr. Vijil has been in the field of education for over 30 years. She is affiliated with multiple local and state organizations. She is the Region 19 representative serving on Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath’s Cabinet as well as the region’s representative serving on the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Executive Committee. “I am honored and look forward to serving in this capacity to support students and other leaders with an emphasis on promoting equity, access, and voice to underrepresented and minority groups.” Dr. Vijil has been the Fabens ISD Superintendent for three (3) years. She is a strong advocate for academic excellence and social justice, and embraces the richness of the Hispanic culture.
