City of El Paso Named 2018 All-America City; Third Time City Takes National Honor

Sunday evening, the City of El Paso was named a 2018 All-America City at the 69th annual All-America City awards ceremony in Denver.

“I have always known El Paso is a City of Champions,” said Mayor Dee Margo. “Being named a 2018 AllAmerica City just reinforces our place among the great cities of our nation.”

The City of El Paso had previously won the prestigious award in 1969 and 2010.

“The El Paso delegation worked hard for this award,” said City Manager Tommy Gonzalez. “They represent the best El Paso has to offer and prove what a wonderful place El Paso is to live.”

The City of El Paso won by outlining three community projects that address the community’s most pressing challenges and improving the quality of life of its residents.

1. Empowering El Pasoans for Services and Leadership

2. Career and Adult Educational Opportunities

3. El Paso Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Program.

The National Civic League recognizes ten communities each year for outstanding civic accomplishments.

To win, each community must demonstrate innovation, inclusiveness, civic engagement, and cross sector collaboration by describing successful efforts to address pressing local challenges.

City Asks for Resident’s Help to Win 2018 All-America City Award

The City of El Paso is a finalist for the 2018 All-America City Award and needs help in celebrating the City of Champions.

Officials with the city of El Paso said, “the All-America City Award (AAC) is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious civic recognition award, and El Paso plans to win; El Pasoans deserve no less.”

As a City of Champions, the team is taking local champions to tell their stories at the AAC Showcase in Denver. To that end, the team is requesting community support to make that happen.

There are two ways for El Pasoans to contribute:

  • Purchase your May 17 Chihuahua baseball game tickets online and click on the EPBDAY promotion. A portion of the cost of each ticket will go toward this effort. There will be a City birthday celebration at the game with fireworks.
  • Donate at the City of Champions GoFundMe page.

Officials with the city say all money raised will be used specifically for community members to attend and participate in the All-America City presentation in Denver.
