When you think about the Batman Family, members like Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood immediately pop into your head. One member that typically gets no love is Batwoman. Well, that is about to change.
Batwoman will be making her TV debut during the fall Arrowverse crossover. This is big as the Arrowverse will be officially recognizing the city of Gotham. It also marks the first time Batwoman has appeared on TV.
Batwoman (Kathy Kane) was created by writer Edmond Hamilton and artist Sheldon Moldoff. Batwoman’s first appearance was Detective Comics #233 (1956). She was introduced as a love interest for Batman in order to combat the allegations of Batman’s homosexuality.
The Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series (1985) retconned DC Comics history so that Batwoman never existed in the main DCU timeline.
In 2006 during DC Comics New 52 initiative, Batwoman was brought back into the DCU continuity. Unlike the Silver Age Kathy Kane, who was romantically attracted to Batman, the new version of Kane is a lesbian.
With Batwoman becoming a part of the Arrowverse, it shouldn’t be long before we start seeing other characters from Gotham City on CW. I’m crossing my fingers we get to see Red Hood square off against Ollie. What Batman Family characters would you like to see in the Arrowverse? Let us know in the comments.
