This week in Nerd is a look back at the Pop Culture events and Nerdy News from the previous week. This Week in Nerd is hosted by Troy Stegner of Zia Comics/Talk Nerdy to Me.
Disney is starting their own streaming service. They will be pulling all their old titles under the streaming service eventually when broadcast contracts expire.
Disney will also be developing original content for their streaming service. One of those shows will be “The Mandalorian” directed by Jon Favreau. Disney is throwing a lot of money at this project and Favreau is a proven director, so we have high hopes for this series.
For those not steeped in all things Star Wars, Mandalorians are what Jango & Boba Fett are. They are a legendary race of warriors originating from the planet Mandalore and it’s moon, Concordia.
Jon Favreau’s Mandalorian will be Lucasfilm’s first live-action Star Wars television show. It is set during the years between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order. The Mandalorian should be a good gap filler between the major Star Wars movie releases.
The only negative is it will only be available on the Disney Play streaming service. That will require the purchase of another streaming service membership.
Are you looking forward to the Mandalorian? Let us know in the comments.
Patrick from ZiaComics.com opens and builds the Lego Star Wars Slave I set 75060. It took him about 2 days to complete the build, but don’t worry… we time lapsed the build so it only takes a few minutes to watch it go from a pile of Legos to the completed Slave 1.
Slave I is the iconic ship owned by Jango Fett before the Clone Wars. His son/clone Boba Fett took ownership after Jango was killed by Mace Windu. Slave I is a modified Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft. Jango outfitted the craft with a number of weapons including laser cannons, projectile launchers, and seismic charges.
After several failed attempts to kill Jedi Master Mace Windu to avenge his father, Boba Fett, Aurra Sing, and Bossk traveled to the planet Florrum to meet with Sing’s friend, spice pirate Hondo Ohnaka.
Jedi Ahsoka Tano and Plo Koon captured Fett and Bossk. Aurra Sing tried to escape on Slave I. Ahsoka Tano sliced off a wing with her lightsaber. This caused Sing to lose control and crash the ship. Hondo Ohnaka took ownership of Slave I until near the end of the Clone War when it returned to Boba’s ownership.
The ship became well-known to the galaxy’s fugitives. It is recognized as being the ship of the galaxy’s deadliest bounty hunters. Boba Fett used Slave I to transport a carbon-frozen Han Solo from Cloud City to Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War. Originally, it had a blue base instead of the dark red. This was changed when it came into Ohnaka’s possession.

Patrick from ZiaComics.com shows us what’s in the box for the SideShow Collectibles Boba Fett Premium Format Figure.
This figure was Inspired by Boba Fett’s brief, but unforgettable appearance in Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Sideshow’s artists have captured every detail of the infamous Boba Fett. This figure is Limited Edition: 2500.
Boba Fett is a name that strikes fear in the hearts of fugitives across the galaxy. This figure depicts him as he scouts his mark from a high rise platform in Bespin’s Cloud City. Blaster at the ready, the elite bounty hunter commands the advantage with his custom fit Mandalorian armor and jetpack.
His poseable cape, helmet, and rangefinder allow collectors to create the perfect dynamic display down to the last detail. He was recruited by Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt to hunt down the Millennium Falcon. He has a hefty bounty in his sights as the elusive Han Solo has evaded him for the last time.
Out of the box the Boba Fett Premium Format Figure arrives in five basic pieces. There is a head, body, hand with blaster, and a two-part base. He’s simple enough to assemble and there is no real worry of damaging the pieces. They combine easily and are solidly crafted.
The five big pieces are easy enough to figure out. There are three mini-pieces that will cause you to scratch your head and wish for the inclusion of an instruction sheet. It turns out that they slide into the pouches at the top of Fett’s boots.
The Boba Fett Premium Format figure stands more than 2 feet tall. Although SideShow is calling this a figure, it is much closer to being a statue. True to SideShow there are some limited mobility points in the head. The cloth cape has wires embedded into it allowing it to be posed in numerous ways. Boba even has his Wookiee braids draped over his shoulder.
Boba Fett Ronin Samurai figure
Everyone’s favorite bounty hunter goes medieval! Boba Fett joins the Meisho Movie Realization series portrayed as a lordless “Ronin” Samurai. This deluxe figure set features an extensive array of accessories.
Ronin Boba Fett comes with his characteristic backpack missile that can be removed/attached, the helmet-mounted scope is movable, he has a short ninja-style katana and sheath and numerous ninja-style blade accessories that can be subtly attached to shin and forearm areas. This action figure measures approximately 6 3/4-inches tall.
Boba Fett is a male human bounty hunter created by the cloners on the planet Kamino. He is the genetic clone of infamous bounty hunter Jango Fett. He is physically identical to the clone troopers created for the Grand Army of the Republic. Boba was unaltered and did not grow at the same accelerated rate as the other Jango clones. Raised as Jango’s son, Boba learned the combat skills necessary to become a bounty hunter in his own right.
Boba Fett gained a reputation as one of the galaxy’s deadliest bounty hunters. By the time of the Galactic Civil War he was working for Jabba the Hutt. Jabba was owed a debt from Han Solo and placed a large bounty on his head. Darth Vader had captured Han Solo on the cloud city of Bespin.
Darth Vader froze Han Solo in carbonite. He allowed Boba Fett to take Han Solo to Tatooine in order to collect the bounty that Jabba had placed on him.
Han Solo’s friends in the Alliance mounted a rescue on Tatooine. A battle broke out over the Great Pit of Carkoon. Boba Fett fought against the Rebel rescuers and was inadvertently knocked into the Sarlacc Pit.
