The Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation will again be hosting their 11th Annual Braden Aboud 10K and 5K Run/5K and 1 Mile Walk this Sunday, May 7th at Zach White Elementary School located at 4256 Roxbury Drive.
“This is our marquee event for the Braden Aboud Foundation. It’s our way to remember one life, but it helps so many others,” said Cindi Aboud, Foundation Director.
Festivities begin at 7:30a.m., with a formal opening ceremony starting at 7:45a.m. The race, which is the largest in the Southwest and one of the largest youth centered races in the nation, starts at 8:00a.m.
Over 140 teams, made up mostly from schools and outside organizations, have entered the 2017 race. The Braden Aboud Foundation welcomes WestStar Bank, Whole Foods, Team Casa, Helen of Troy and CIMA Hospice as its first corporate entries. With over 10,600 participants on deck, this year’s event looks to be another attendance record-breaker.
Registration is accessible online through Thursday, May 4th and in person through Friday, May 5th at 5024 Doniphan #2.
The cost of adult registration is $20 and anyone under 19 years old will pay $10 to register. Late registration will be held on Saturday, May 6th at Jack in the Box located at 655 Redd Road and, for walkers only, on the morning of the race, Sunday, May 7th.
The proceeds from the annual Run/Walk support the projects of the Foundation: B a Success Backpacks, B WARM Blanket Drive and the B STRONG Shoe Giveaway. The Braden Aboud Foundation also funds annual senior scholarships throughout El Paso, after school programs, youth swimming lessons, and grants to schools, teams and organizations.
The continued success of the foundation has drawn widespread awareness to its mission of providing an avenue through sports that will help promote physical fitness, positive self-esteem and lifelong friendships. Now in its 11th year, the foundation will have donated a total of $1,100,000 to schools, teams, projects, and programs to help kids all over El Paso B STRONG.
The Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation was established in 2007 and is a volunteer-based organization founded to celebrate the life of Braden Aboud, a 14 year old student/athlete who died in a snow skiing accident.
