Pro-Musica Chamber Music Festival features Catalyst Quartet performances

With the third week of the El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Music Festival underway, the Catalyst Quartet takes the page representing the Sphinx Competition, celebrating diversity in Classical Music.

“Communication and the delivery of ideas is at the heart of why we make music,” says Catalyst. “We defy genre and break down the walls of tradition, re-imagining and redefining the classical music experience.”

Hailed by the New York Times as “Energetic and play with Earthly Vigor,” the quartet, made up of Paul Laraia, Karla Donahew Perez, Karlos Rodriguez and Jessie Montgomery will perform their “Southern Hemisphere,” program, and a tribute to composers from Latin America.

Catalyst will perform the works of such composers as Villa-lobos, new composer Gabriela Lena-Frank and the Tangos of Piazzola.

There are two shows scheduled this weekend, as Catalyst first performs at the DAAC Arts and Cultural Center in Old Mesilla on Saturday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at UTEP’s Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall.

For tickets, go to eppm.org or call 915-747-8163. Tickets are also available at the door. Students Tickets are $5.00.
