Cathedral High increases security over ‘image and menacing text’

According to an email sent to parents, as well as a notice on the Cathedral High School home page, security will be increased Wednesday due to a ‘image with a menacing text’ sent from one student to another.

The alert, posted Tuesday night, says the Cathedral High administration confirmed the texted threat and says it was sent by a sophomore at the school.

The release goes on to state that the administration has spoken to the family, and instructed the student not to return to school until further notice.

The alert, signed by Principal Aurora Lujan and President Brother Nick Gonzalez, ends with the following statement: “A Lasallian school community believes that your son was entrusted to us by God so his safety is always our priority. We join with you in remaining vigilant against all that would harm him.”

Officials have also contacted the El Paso Police Department and requested officers for Wednesday. In addition to the EPPD, Cathedral officials have also increased the number of officers from their security company that will be on campus.
