Retirement Home for El Paso Priests seeks Volunteers

Casitas San Mateo, the local retirement home for priests is asking the community for volunteers to help out at the complex.

According to diocese officials, while there are only a handful of retired priests living there, the population will grow over the next few years.

Patricia Fierro, Chancellor for the Diocese of El Paso shares,  “We are very excited to now have seven retired priest’s living in “Casitas San Mateo”, now comes the future planning of building more casitas for these amazing priests who served our lord.”

“With our new retired community growing, we need the help from our catholic community to volunteer their time to these seven amazing persons,” Fierro added.

Volunteers needed to help in these areas:

  • Provide a ride for errands (Grocery shopping, Dr. Office etc.etc)
  • Spend some time with them. (Sit, Talk, Walk, Read Books)
  • Meal Preparations for some priests.
  • We do have Priests on wheel chairs and walkers.

Casitas San Mateo opened in 2014 on the grounds of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in El Paso’s Mission Valley. The four-building housing complex allows retired priests to share activities and prayer life, and to mentor young men preparing for the priesthood at the seminary.

Donations are welcomed and needed as well to maintain the cost of living and any necessities our priests may require while living at Casitas San Mateo.
