Frontier, United Direct Flights to Chicago Begin Today

On Monday, options for those El Pasoans who fly from the Sun City to the Windy City multiplied.

United Airlines began their two new, daily non-stop flights from El Paso International Airport to Chicago O’Hare; while Frontier Airlines began their new, non-stop flights as well.

“The twice daily, early morning and mid-day flights, will improve connectivity and convenience for business and international travel,” said Monica Lombraña, A.A.E., Managing Director of Aviation and International Bridges. “We are pleased that our airline partners, like United are investing in our community by bringing new non-stop routes.”

Lombraña added, “This added air service improves connectivity and provides travelers a budget friendly option…we welcomed Frontier to El Paso with flights to Denver last month and we are extremely pleased that they have added this non-stop flight to Chicago.”

These are but two of 11 new flights announced in the past three years for El Paso International Airport. United will operate an Embraer 170 aircraft on the new route with first class seating options, Frontier will operate an Airbus A320 family aircraft for this route.

Legendary Band ‘Chicago’ Coming to Plaza Theatre on March 28

Hailed as one of the “most important bands in music since the dawn of the rock and roll era” by former President Bill Clinton, the legendary rock and roll band with horns, Chicago, will be performing in the Sun City.

Chicago have toured every year since the beginning – they’ve never missed a year. The original four band members are Robert Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet and vocals, James Pankow on trombone and Walt Parazaider on woodwinds.

The band line-up also includes Tris Imboden on drums, Keith Howland on guitar and vocals, Lou Pardini on keyboards and vocals, Ray Herrmann on sax and flute, Walfredo Reyes, Jr. on percussion and Jeff Coffey on bass and vocals.

Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six consecutive decades; and recently came in at #9, the highest charting American band in Billboard Magazine’s recent Hot 200 All-Time Top Artists.  The band was inducted into the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, on what was their first nomination.

For five years, Chicago raised over a quarter of a million dollars to fight breast cancer for the American Cancer Society by having a winning bidder come on stage and sing “If You Leave Me Now” in concert.

Chicago generously support other charitable causes, donating a portion of ticket sales to Kelly Cares, established by Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly and his wife Paqui, to support local, national and global organizations that strive to improve their communities in the areas of health and education.

Portions of ticket sales also benefit the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation, which seeks a cure for a fatal children’s disease, Niemann-Pick Type C. Chicago manager Peter Schivarelli, who played football for Coach Parseghian, is on Notre Dame’s Board Of Directors for their Athletic Commission.

Chicago has also associated with Hannah & Friends, an organization that serves children and adults with special needs. Hannah & Friends is the personal mission of Maura Weis and her husband, Charlie Weis, the former coach at the University of Kansas.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, January 19 at 10am online, as well as at the Plaza Theatre Box Office, or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

Frontier Airlines Announces New, Non-Stop Flights from El Paso to Chicago, Denver

During a Tuesday morning news conference, the City of El Paso and Frontier Airlines announced new, non-stop flights from El Paso International Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, in addition to previously announced non-stop flights to Denver International Airport.

“More non-stop options are great for El Pasoans and their pocketbooks, it is a wonderful thing to see that national carriers are recognizing the economic growth and exciting potential our wonderful city has to offer,” Mayor Dee Margo said.

Tickets to both destinations are now on sale. Frontier will operate an Airbus A320 family aircraft on both routes.
