Board of Directors Names Cindy Stout New CEO for El Paso Children’s Hospital

Cindy A. Stout, long-time El Pasoan and former Chief Nursing Officer for University Medical Center, has been named Chief Executive Officer for El Paso Children’s Hospital.

The announcement came Wednesday afternoon following a meeting of the Board of Directors for El Paso Children’s Hospital.

Mark Amox, who served as President and CEO for the Children’s Hospital, is leaving the hospital to pursue other business opportunities. He served as President and CEO for the Children’s Hospital since October of 2016.

In making the announcement, Ted Houghton, Chairman of the Children’s Hospital Board, said, “It is a tremendous day for El Paso and for the children of our Borderplex region. We are welcoming a new CEO with hometown roots and exceptional business and healthcare management skills.  We know Cindy will lead El Paso Children’s Hospital in delivering the highest quality of care for our patients and their families.” Speaking of the former CEO, Houghton said, “We wish Mark much success in his future endeavors.  The Board thanks him for his tenure at the Children’s Hospital and for his leadership during a complex transition period.”

Houghton said Stout will take over the CEO post immediately.  “The Board felt this is the best manner in which to handle the move.  It is critical that the Children’s Hospital continues to operate independently and under solid leadership without gaps in the transition.  We want our patients, physicians, and staff to know there is a highly capable person on site, with a firm hand on the wheel.  We do not intend to miss a beat.”

Stout comes to the Children’s Hospital after a long career in El Paso healthcare.  Prior to her role as Chief Nursing Officer at University Medical Center, Stout was Chief Nursing Officer at Del Sol Medical Center and also served as Chief Nursing Executive for Las Palmas/Del Sol Healthcare.

She is a member of the Adjunct Faculty for the University of Texas at El Paso and serves on the Advisory Boards of UTEP’s School of Nursing and the Texas Tech Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, and on the Nursing Advisory Committees for El Paso Community College Nursing and Dona Ana Community College. She also serves on numerous other community and civic boards and committees.  Stout earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Duke University.

“I am honored to serve in this position and am extremely proud to be a part of an organization that represents something so very special in this community,” said Stout. “El Paso Children’s Hospital is dedicated to providing the best possible pediatric care, research, and education in the Borderplex region, and I am committed to making sure we deliver on that mission.” Stout said she will be meeting with groups and individuals from the hospital staff as well as with partners and doctors in the coming days to outline her plans and operating goals for the Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Steven Ross, an El Paso pediatric radiology specialist, said the appointment of Stout to head El Paso Children’s Hospital is a good move by the hospital board.

“This hospital holds great promise for the children and families of our region,” said Dr. Ross.  “Cindy Stout has earned an exceptional list of healthcare achievements, and naming her to head the El Paso Children’s Hospital will help ensure that it continues to strive to meet that promise. I believe I can speak for many in the El Paso pediatric physician community and say we welcome Cindy to her new position and look forward to working with her to make El Paso’s only independent children’s hospital a top-tier hospital.”
