State: Retail Growth Places El Paso 2nd Among Texas’ Largest Cities

According to new numbers in from the State of Texas, El Paso’s retail sector is shining as bright as the star on the mountain.

In a report released Thursday by the state, El Paso’s retail sector is seeing significant growth, as data shows that sales tax rebates have increased 10.57 percent in one year.

“The data from the Texas Comptroller’s Office reaffirms the strength of our retail community here in El Paso, and demonstrates to future retailers that El Paso is a strong place for business,” said Mayor Oscar Leeser.

This data is reflective of the 12 months prior to November 2016, and also shows El Paso had the second largest percentage increase in tax rebates among the 20 largest cities in Texas.

Leeser added, “The City of El Paso has recognized the importance of retail when it comes to expanding our tax base, which is why the organization is focused on bringing new retailers to El Paso that create additional economic opportunities.”

El Paso’s economic strength can also be seen through the number of successful openings like La Madeleine Country French Café, Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurant, and most recently, Whole Foods Market.

In looking at gross retail sales for El Paso County, more than $29 billion was generated from 2013 to 2016.
