‘Stampede’ Headed to Sunland Park, 1200 New Jobs Expected

On the eve of Sunland Park’s celebration of the City’s 35th year anniversary, Stampede, a leading processor of proteins to national restaurants and retailers across the country, announced Friday that they will be bringing over 1,200 new jobs to Sunland Park.

“Sunland Park is already one of the safest and fastest growing cities in the State. Stampede’s interest in our community is a result of our collaboration with the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance and our City’s leadership. Stampede’s investment in making Sunland Park their international premier hotspot, reaffirms why nearby families are looking to us to continue making Sunland Park a premier place to start a career, start a family, or invest in a bright future,” said Javier Perea, Mayor of Sunland Park.

In 2015 Tyson vacated the facility on McNutt Road, which resulted in 200 lost jobs to the community.

At that time, the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA), together with the NM Partnership, began aggressively re-marketing the facility to food processors and site selection consultants nationwide.

According to MVEDA officials, “These efforts eventually led to introductions with Stampede Meat executives, direct site visits, and comparative operational analysis, provided by MVEDA, which outlined the benefits of operating in Sunland Park versus the other sites that were under consideration in Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa.”

Via Stampede’s website, the company touts their four Chicago-area plants that currently have a production capacity in excess of 190 million pounds annually.  In addition to prepared meats, they also supply restaurants with prepared meals, soups, vegetables and vegan protein alternatives.

“Stampede’s decision to establish their roots in Sunland Park symbolizes what the City has said for years: We are Open for Business – Welcome! Our Administration and elected officials have worked hard to provide the necessary leadership and aggressive infrastructure projects for the City. I am looking forward to working with Sunland Park’s newest member of our community in making our residents SunlandProud,” said Julia Brown, City Manager.

“Through collaborative efforts between the State of New Mexico, The City of Sunland Park, and MVEDA, we were able to illustrate to Stampede Meat that they were partnering with a community that was truly committed to their growth and success.  The positive economic impact that that will be created by this project for the City of Sunland Park cannot be overstated,” said Davin Lopez, President & CEO of MVEDA

Upon full expansion, this project will make Stampede Meat one of the largest manufacturers in the State of New Mexico.
